The Maserati Mistral was previewed at the Salone Internazionale dell’Automobile di Torino in November of 1963. It was the first of the Maserati series to be named after the wind, a cold northerly wind of southern France for this instance. Pietro Frua penned the sweeping body around the double overhead cam straight six engine famous for various Grand Prix victories in the mid to late 50s. The model was the last to sport the historic drivetrain offered in 3500, 3700, and 4000 cc. Since only 844 coupes and 124 spyders were assembled, the model continues to be a stand-out in any collection.

Motorcar Gallery’s 1966 Maserati Mistral coupe is powered by the healthy 4-liter engine paired to a 5-speed ZF manual gearbox with disc brakes behind Borrani wire wheels. Exterior is finished in Metallic Aubergine (eggplant) over a beige leather interior with a Webasto sliding sunroof. Additional features include factory air conditioning, clear Smiths gauges, and original Lucas fuel injection. The Smith gauges read metric displaying 51,890 kilometers or 32,242 miles. Chrome accents both exterior and interior show well with no pitting or delamination. Glass is free of pitting or scratches around the entire cabin.

Having been meticulously maintained by specialists and regularly exercised on vintage tours, this Mistral is not only a visually stunning example. Obtaining such a uniquely optioned Mistral makes this an opportunity not to be missed.
